Getting a tattoo can be a rite of passage, and Drew Barrymore was right there with her best pal Savannah Guthrie when the Today Show host got inked for the first time recently. Barrymore also got a fresh new tattoo to add to her existing collection, and now the duo is showing off their ink.

In a pre-taped interview that aired on the Today Show today, the two women discussed their friendship, which has spanned the past eight years. They told anchor Sheinelle Jones that they met when Guthrie was interviewing Barrymore about her 2015 memoir, and have maintained a close friendship since then. So close, in fact, that they had plans to get tattoos after they left the studio that day, they revealed to Jones.

This tattoo business wasn't impulsive though — it all goes back to a conversation the pair had in 2022 on The Drew Barrymore Show when Guthrie revealed that she has no tattoos and wanted to get one. Guthrie said that she wanted to get her mother's handwriting tattooed on her wrist. In reality, she ended up getting her father's handwriting instead, with the words "All my love."

Guthrie explained why she chose that phrase on Instagram, writing, "He wrote a love letter to my mom and this is his writing. And it's not only his writing, so he's with me, but I’m trying to make it my mantra for life."

Barrymore revealed her new ink as well in Guthrie's post. Though the star already has roughly 12 other tattoos, the new one she got with Guthrie depicts three line-drawn fish on her forearm.

Guthrie and Barrymore have also partnered professionally recently, the two have partnered to produce the animated Netflix series Princess Power which premiered on January 30.
