If somebody was going to pay an amazing artist to tattoo one car brand on your body, which one would it be? You can get it with butterflies, flames, barbed wire, minimalist triangles — whatever and wherever you want.

If you said Volkswagen, you’re so basic.

According to stats compiled by Compare the Market, VW is the automotive brand most commonly seen in tattoos.

The insurance-comparison site analyzed car tattoos posts on Instagram to find out which brands are most commonly immortalized in ink on the human canvas, identifying 5,507 tattoos with some sort of Volkswagen product or brand image in them.

It makes sense if you think about the droves of near-cult-status Beetle and Vanagon clubs and groups there are out there.

Speaking of cult-like behaviour, Jeep fans also seem to love to pen their automotive preference permanently on their bodies. The brand ranks second on the list, with 2,139 Jeep tattoos on Insta.

Cadillac, Pontiac and Chevrolet come in at third, fourth, and fifth, with between 1,400 and 1,800 tatt posts, suggesting that North Americans either get more car tattoos or show them off on Instagram more often.

The next non-North American brand is BMW, with 1,375 posts, while Honda enters at position number seven as the first Asian automaker, with 747 posts.

When it came to the most popular model-specific tattoo, North American products once again dominated. The Chevrolet Impala is the most-inked vehicle, with 823 posts, followed by the DMC DeLorean with 800. The VW Beetle, meanwhile, takes fourth place with 147 posts.

Note: This is not a commentary on whether or not any brand logo makes a good tattoo. Y’all can tackle that this weekend. Happy Thanksgiving.
