These simple (and harmless!) ideas will actually bring you closer together.

For a healthy relationship that lasts, it's wise to always keep your partner on his toes — and to stay laughing together. That's why April Fools' Day is a perfect time to pull a prank you'll both remember for years to come. We've rounded up the best April Fools' pranks to play on your boyfriend that are guaranteed to get him good. But be warned: If you do try one of these, you better watch your back for a trick coming right back at you in due time (you'll deserve it)!

Our list of epic ideas includes a range of stunts from harmless and goofy to downright saucy. Some require some serious preparation, careful planning and specialty supplies — while others only require you to keep a straight face while you ad-lib some strategic lines.

Whether you and your guy are into bathroom humor, kitchen fails or car comedy, there's an idea on our list just right for you. And if you cohabitate with your boyfriend, there are plenty of in-home ideas to catch him by surprise this April 1, too. (No place is safe!)

Want to get the whole family involved? Look to these kid-friendly April Fools' pranks, too!

Spend days — even weeks! — leading up to April 1 promising him you’re about to blow his mind with the biggest, craziest, most epic prank ever. When the day comes, don't do a single thing… except enjoy watching him squirm all day in nervous anticipation.

Use permanent marker to draw an over-the-top tattoo on your body in his honor (or buy a custom fake online if you’re really committed). The more ridiculous the better. Bonus: Tell him it would mean a lot to you if he got inked with a matching one…

If your boyfriend already put a ring on it, pull a fast one: Stash it (safely) away, and then announce you lost it down the drain. (Not engaged? This works equally well with any jewelry gift of value.)

For this prank, you don't have to say anything. Just put on your best poker face each time you strut out in front of him wearing an inexplicably different outfit. (If he's not the observant type, you might have to do it 10 times before he even starts to notice!)

This works best for the boyfriend with shared finances. Tell him you got into day trading as a side hustle and lost a huge sum of money making a bad bet. Or — tell him you won a huge sum on a hot tip!

If your boyfriend is known to leave an empty roll of toilet paper for you to deal with instead of replacing it promptly himself, this is the April Fools' prank that will teach him a lesson: replace the toilet paper roll with a roll of duct tape instead.

If your guy is a couch commando, use April 1 as an occasion to get him back for all the times he seized control of the remote when you wanted to watch something else on TV. Using a pen, ink a black dot on a piece of scotch tape, and place it over the remote's sensor. It won't work to control the TV — and nope, it still won't work after he changes the batteries three different times.

Is your man a big fan of The Office? Then take a page out of Jim's playbook and encapsulate one of his essential items in Jello. It works best if you let a first batch set, drop in the item and then cover it with a second batch to set, fully encasing the item.

Dude, where's my car? That's what he’ll wonder after he looks for his ride on the street where he parked it. You of course will know just where it is since you moved it last night while he was sleeping! Just let him know where it actually is before he reports the car stolen though, okay?

Carefully remove Oreo cookies from their package and replace the cream filling with another edible white substance (like mayo!). Choose just one random Oreo to mess with for maximum surprise when he's expecting nothing out of the ordinary.

You know that show you absolutely always wait and watch together? Make him think you blithely skipped ahead or just confuse the heck out of him: Secretly click into a later episode, and watch him try to figure out what on earth is going on in the plot when it starts to play out of sequence.

Grab his phone when he's not looking and go into the settings. From there, change the autocorrect feature so it replaces an ordinary word he commonly uses with something else. Leave no mystery about the nature of the prank by replacing a simple word like "the" with "April Fools'"!

Tightly stretch a sheet of plastic wrap over the toilet bowl and shock him big time when the barrier deflects his, uh, business. Warning: This one might require some serious cleanup. (And as the prankster... it might rightly fall to you!)

Prepare a fake spill in advance by mixing white glue with a convincing color of paint — say pink in a bottle of nail polish, or brown in a cup of coffee. Then turn your chosen vessel on its side onto a plastic baggie or wax paper surface and let it dry. When it's completely dry and the glue is fully solidified, transfer the whole thing somewhere much more delicate — like his laptop keyboard or a white carpet.

Discreetly tape a sign inside his car window somewhere he won't see it — but plenty of other drivers and pedestrians will when he drives to work in the morning. When they honk and wave per your sign's request, he'll wonder how he suddenly became the most popular driver on the road.

Switch up the bags between two cereal boxes — so he gets something a little more bland than his favorite chocolate one. Womp-womp!

This is old school and totally analog — and it won't cost you a thing. When he's sleeping, draw on his face with a marker. Go with glasses and a mustache — or something cheekier. When he wakes up and gets a look in the mirror … well, he’ll know it's April Fools' Day!

This prank works for the couple who shares social media passwords. Log into his Facebook account and change his birthday to April 1. Watch as the flood of celebratory messages come in — and your boyfriend is utterly confused as to why. (Beware you might lose your password privileges after pulling this gag!)

Before he comes into the kitchen, swap the sugar for salt. So when he tries to sweeten his coffee, he'll find quite an unpleasant taste sensation as a surprise. (Of course, coffee is serious business in the morning, so play nice and have a fresh cup on hand as a peace offering after the deed is done!)

Carefully place confetti atop the blades of a ceiling fan while it's turned off. When he turns it on, the confetti will launch around the room like it's a wild party. Definitely have your camera on hand (but beware the cleanup).
