The mother and stepfather of two children in Angelina County, located in East Texas, were arrested after they reportedly tied their children down and forcibly gave them tattoos, according to an article published by KTRE.

An affidavit obtained by KTRE says an investigation into the incident by Child Protective Services and the Angelina County Sheriff's Office revealed the children, ages 9 and 5, were allegedly tied down and given tattoos. One received a tattoo to the foot and the other child received one on the shoulder, according to the report. Further investigation claims their mouths and eyes were covered with tape and a rag.

The affidavit also claimed the parents tried to cover the tattoos by "cutting, scraping, and scrubbing" the areas, and remove them by rubbing the tattoos with lemon juice. The interim Zavalla Police Chief Lieutenant James Denby told the news outlet that a tattoo kit was given to investigators.

The mother, who has been identified as Megan Mae Farr, 27, has been charged with two counts of injury to a child and unlawful restraint. Gunner Farr, 23, who is the children's stepfather, is being charged with one count of unlawful restraint and one count of injury to a child. Bonds totaling $35,000 each have been set, KTRE reported.

The children have since been placed in the care of CPS and investigations are ongoing, KTRE said.
