THEY don't have the best reputation when it comes to piercings.

But one Claire's Accessories employee has hit back at the backlash the company receives, insisting that if people get infections after having piercings there, it's because they aren't completing the aftercare properly.

Riley took to TikTok to share a video diary of her day at work, showing herself stocking up the squishmallows in store, unloading a shipment and getting a visit from her boyfriend.

She also documented "piercing time", for which she donned plastic gloves as she armed herself with the piercing gun.

Her video quickly attracted comments from people slamming Claire's for their piercing procedures, with one writing: "Y’all don't get any type of piercings at Claire's !

"It isn't a piercing studio, and they’re not qualified to do it. Always get infected!"

But Riley didn't hold back in her response.

"For everyone who's blaming their earring infections on the piercing gun: Claires uses disposable, single use, sterilised cartridges that require no human contact," she wrote.

"The gun does not come into contact with the ear at any time, only the sterilised preloaded cartridge.

"So the reason for infection would be an improper execution of the after care (cleaning, twisting, etc)."

However, her explanation wasn't accepted by many, with one writing: "Yes but claire's aren't actually licensed piercers because they’re retailers so they don't have to follow actual safety protocols for piercing."

Somebody else commented that "piercing guns are so bad for ears", with Riley replying: "Actually it's only the air pressure guns that are dangerous! Claire's doesn't use those."

But another comment read: "It is still dangerous. the end of piercings are blunt, not needle like.

"Regardless of what gun it's still damaging."
